Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about products, licensing, and deployment. Can't find what you need? Contact support.
What operating systems does the EtherCAT Master support?
Linux with PREEMPT_RT or Xenomai for hard real-time operation. Standard Linux kernels are supported for evaluation. QNX and Windows (RTSS) support is available in the Professional and Enterprise editions.
What is the minimum cycle time?
All editions support a 250 µs minimum cycle time with a PREEMPT_RT kernel and a compatible NIC.
How many EtherCAT slaves can the master support?
Up to 16 slaves in Community, 64 in Professional, and 65,535 in Enterprise. Synchronized axis limits are 16 / 64 / 128 respectively.
Does the Delta robot support washdown environments?
Yes. The standard configuration is IP65-rated. An IP69K washdown option is available for food and beverage applications where high-pressure, high-temperature cleaning is required.
Can I use the EtherCAT Master with a third-party delta robot?
Yes. The EtherCAT Master is robot-agnostic and works with any EtherCAT slave device. The Adeeb Delta Robot is one example, but customers use it with servo drives, I/O modules, and other vendors' hardware.
What NIC do you recommend?
Intel i210 and i219 are the most widely tested and recommended adapters. Most Intel GbE adapters with igb or e1000e drivers work well. Broadcom and Realtek adapters are not recommended for production deployments.
How is the Community edition licensed?
The Community edition is free for evaluation and non-commercial use. A license key is issued per machine based on a hardware fingerprint. Contact us to upgrade to Professional or Enterprise.
Is source code available?
Source code access is available with the Enterprise license. Professional and Community editions are distributed as compiled binaries with headers.
What support SLAs are available?
Community: community forum only. Professional: email support with 48-hour response SLA. Enterprise: priority support with 4-hour response SLA and optional on-site commissioning.
